Zogović: We are being attacked jointly by those who grew up politically under the DPS umbrella

We are being attacked jointly by those who grew up politically under the umbrella of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), as well as those who have already made combinations and agreements with the political wing of the mafia.

This was assessed by the vice president of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milun Zogović.

"I waited patiently for several days so that, as our people would say, all the foals would run to the bull and so that all the 'innocent' would throw stones at the DNP and try to frame us for treason. History is a teacher of life, and it teaches us that treason is most often attempted by those who have already committed it and those who are inclined to such a way of functioning in life and politics. The pathetic attempts to slander the DNP that we will betray the voters and make rearrangements of the government with the political wing of the mafia are only malicious insinuations intended for the naive who are ready to believe such nonsense. It is no coincidence that the growth of the DNP's rating, into one of the most powerful subjects on the Montenegrin political scene, has awakened and mobilized numerous devil's apprentices, who cannot understand that other people's morality and ethics cannot be measured by their example and mold and that, unlike them, there is a different political and human material - the one that has never served Milo Đukanović or will ever serve him," Zogović pointed out.

According to him, if the directors of this play had been harassed, arrested and persecuted for their political beliefs, if they had witnessed their political path with their own lives and if they had bravely and uncompromisingly stood on the DPS line for decades, it would probably never have occurred to them to be, as he stated, being slandered and dishonorably accused.

"We are being attacked jointly by those who grew up politically under the DPS umbrella, as well as those who have already made combinations and agreements with the political wing of the mafia. These are mostly people who were members, voters or privileged users of the system during the DPS government, and they only became fictitious opponents of the DPS when that party lost power. Although they have changed party jerseys, most of these 'innocents' still vote for the DPS and hope for their return because they grew up and were shaped by the song 'if we don't want bread, yes, we will vote for the DPS'," said Zogović.

As he said, after the DNP withdrew its support for Mr. Saša Mujović, we called on him, in accordance with democratic standards, to resign after losing his majority and facilitate an agreement on the election of a new mayor.

"Instead of respecting democratic principles, our former coalition partners decided to usurp power, even though it was clear that Mr. Saša Mujović no longer had a parliamentary majority. Although they deserved to be removed by their actions, we clearly stated, due to our own principles, that we would not replace Mr. Mujović and Ms. Borovinić Bojović with the DPS. If we wanted to, we would have done so. Instead of respecting our political consistency and correct approach, our former coalition partners decided to commit political violence at all costs, place Podgorica under compulsory administration and practically privatize the Capital City in order to govern it without any control or accountability. Compulsory administration means that the goat and the cabbage are left alone on a boat without any control or accountability," said Zogović.

Zogović also said that the resignation of the President of the Capital City Assembly began the process of introducing autocracy and forced administration through the de facto suspension of the work of the city parliament.

"Despite all the injustices we suffered from our former coalition partners, we proposed that our councilor, Ms. Ivana Mašković, be elected as the President of the Assembly, in order to prevent the introduction of autocracy and forced administration and to preserve the functionality of the Assembly. Although there were initially announcements that she would receive the necessary support, we soon faced blackmail and conditioning from colleagues from PES, who were looking for a model to avoid supporting our candidate. This made it clear that they did not want to give up on the scenario of forced administration and political privatization of Podgorica. All of this was accompanied by shameless subterfuge and claims that the DNP would make rearrangements with the DPS, in addition to everything that certain former DPS members and those who collaborated with the DPS have been polluting the public space with in recent days. It is needless to remind you that the DNP has repeatedly demonstrated and proven its principledness, responsibility and attitude towards public office," he added.

Zogovović also said that they showed that positions and positions were never more important to them than political principles.

"Therefore, when someone tries to label us with treason or political trade, all we need to do is put them under a political and moral microscope. And it is easy to discover the motives for such wretched scheming. And then it is confirmed for the umpteenth time that those who speak the loudest about treason are precisely those who have been prone to such tricks during their political careers. Those who lightly condemn treason assume that everyone is ready to do what they themselves would or have already done. That is why there is a difference between us and them. We do not betray, not because we have not had the opportunity, but because we despise treason and, unlike those who attack us, we are not accustomed to it. The DNP has never traded in beliefs or the will of the people, nor have we subordinated political principles to positions and functions. That is why lessons about honor, consistency and political morality cannot be given to us by those whose biographies are marked by political transformations, calculations and compromises," he said.

He added that the DNP has chosen the more difficult but honorable path so far "and will continue to do so."

"Our politics is not a politics of immediate interest, but a politics of responsibility towards citizens, the given word and values, the program and ideology that we represent. That is why we did not agree to blackmail, we did not trade principles and we did not look for shortcuts that would lead us to positions at any cost. Time is the best judge. It will best show who was and remained consistent. History confirms that treason is most often attempted and talked about most by those who have already committed it, those who talk about treason and the army about shortening...", concluded Zogović.
