SNP: The executive authority of the Municipality of Žabljak ignored the Collegium's decision and endangered local farmers

Despite the unanimous agreement reached at the Collegium of the Municipal Assembly, the executive authority of the Municipality of Žabljak sent excavators to the barns of our fellow citizens on June 15th, thus directly threatening the basic existence of local farmers, the Socialist People's Party (SNP) announced.

As they state, at the meeting of the Collegium of the Žabljak Municipal Council, held on June 12, 2026, the president of the SNP Councilors' Club, Milanko Ćetković, presented a clear and constructive proposal to postpone the execution of the decision to demolish the stables.

"The goal of this initiative was to wait for the fulfillment of urban planning, technical and legal prerequisites, in order to enable citizens to relocate their temporary facilities, in a legal manner. All members of the Collegium agreed with the proposal. The plan implied that the Municipality and the Municipal Assembly would first carry out the subdivision of land that was specifically designated for this purpose, and that a lease agreement for a fixed period of time with a minimal fee would be concluded with interested citizens," they said.

They point out that this position of the SNP councilors' club was motivated exclusively by economic and social reasons.

"Stable owners do not keep domestic animals to develop a big business or get rich, but to ensure a minimum economic existence for their families. Unfortunately, the executive branch has shown complete insensitivity towards agricultural production and domestic food production. By acting directly contrary to the agreement with the Collegium, the executive branch has demonstrated open disrespect for the presidents of the councilors' clubs, and therefore for all councilors who were legitimately elected by the citizens of Žabljak in the 2022 local elections," they say.

As they state, the SNP Žabljak councilors' club reminds the public that the government exists for the citizens, not the citizens for the government.

"The government must be at the service of its residents, and whether this is currently the case in Žabljak - the best judge and answer will be given by the citizens themselves," they conclude.
