Đuričković: Reading the EP report and the Opposition Platform, one can see a similarity in understanding key issues

The European Parliament report precisely diagnoses the problems facing our society, Miloš Đuričković, an official of the European Union, announced today.

"Deep concern about foreign interference, hybrid threats and disinformation campaigns, political instrumentalization of religious institutions, pressure on the judiciary and the media, endangering the independence of institutions, as well as the relativization of war crimes, are not topics that emerged overnight. These are topics that are a consequence of the policies and actions of the entities and individuals who today make up the parliamentary majority, together with their political satellites. It is precisely because of the awareness of these challenges that the opposition, through its Platform, has offered concrete solutions aimed at strengthening the European agenda, protecting institutional independence, combating foreign and hybrid influences, improving the rule of law and preserving the civic character of the state," Đuričković emphasized in a statement.

He added that it is therefore particularly important to point out that, reading the EP report and the Opposition Platform, one can observe almost complete coincidence in understanding the key problems facing Montenegro.

"While the European Parliament precisely diagnoses the causes and consequences of the current situation, the Opposition Platform offers a series of concrete measures that represent a response to most of the identified challenges. This confirms that European and democratic forces in Montenegro not only recognize the problems, but also have a clear vision of how to solve them. That is why it is more important today than ever to bring together all social and political actors who sincerely believe in the European future of Montenegro and who are ready to oppose policies that distance the country from European standards and values," said Đuričković.

He said that the European Parliament report is not a criticism of Montenegro.

"It is a criticism of wrong policies that produce institutional weakness, divisions and distancing from the European path. It is up to us to choose whether to ignore these messages or turn them into an incentive for reforms that will keep Montenegro on the path to full membership in the European Union," said Đuričković.

Brussels noted with concern the adoption of amendments to the laws on internal affairs and the National Security Agency (ANB) despite strong criticism from the opposition and civil society, and called for transparent procedures and genuine cooperation and consultations, in particular on all laws related to the European integration process, with all relevant stakeholders, including the opposition, legal experts and the European Commission (EC).
