The people are winning: Our councilors will not participate in the work of the sessions while Marković is at the head of the Tivat Municipal Council

The main board of the civic list Narod pobjeđuje (NP), which is the backbone of the local government in Tivat, made a decision last night that NP councilors will no longer participate in the work of the Tivat Municipal Assembly (MA) sessions while it is headed by the current president of the local parliament, Miljan Marković (New Serbian Democracy - NSD).

"The Civic List's Governing Board has decided that the councilors of our Civic List will no longer participate in the sessions of the Tivat Municipal Assembly, which are organized by Miljan Marković with the opposition, nor will they give legitimacy to cheaply staged farces," it was announced after the session of that body, the statement said.

This is the culmination of months of conflict between the NP and the NSD in Tivat, namely between the Mayor Željko Komnenović, who is the leader of the NP, and the Mayor of the Municipality Miljan Marković, who is the head of the Tivat NSD Executive Committee.

The NP stated that "the peak of the embarrassment and the final straw occurred at the last session when Marković shamelessly abused the position of the Speaker of the Parliament to publicly lament the collapse of his unfulfilled ambitions and the position of director of DOO Komunalno Tivat."

"When months of dirty campaigning against People Wins did not yield the expected result, he resorted to publicly stated lies and brutal untruths against the current director Vučeta Stanišić and the NP, which caused a feeling of shame among the majority of councilors present. Neither the calculated avoidance of including this item on the agenda, nor the obstruction of the parliamentary confirmation of the results of the competition for the director was enough for him, but he resorted to an unprecedented outburst in the Tivat Assembly that does not correspond to the basic principles of civic morality." - stated the Komnenović list, saying that "the Board of Directors of this company officially informed the inspection of the Ministry of Public Administration about Miljan Marković's active obstruction against DOO Komunalno", the NP said.

They state that "the course of the discussion with opposition councilors was agreed in advance in order to discredit the work of the National Party as much as possible. In recent months, it has become Marković's established practice, which we will no longer tolerate because as holders of executive power, we have the greatest political responsibility towards citizens."

"Members of the Executive Board of the People Wins will hold consultations with representatives of the ruling coalition in the coming days to define further political steps," the statement concludes.

The ruling coalition at the local level in Tivat consists of the NP, the Europe Now Movement, the Democrats, the Democratic People's Party, the NSD, the Democratic Serbian Party (DSS) and the civic lists Tivat Action and the Krtoljska Lista, but for a long time there have been "creaks" in the mutual relations of some of the constituents, especially between the NP and the NSD, or the NP and the Tivat Action.

The ruling coalition has a slim majority with 17 of its councilors in the local parliament, which consists of 32 citizens' representatives.
