Montenegro will close two more chapters in negotiations with the European Union (EU) on July 14, the Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG) portal reported tonight.
The media outlet states that the ambassadors of EU member states have given the green light to close two additional chapters in the negotiations with Montenegro, and that these are chapters 8 (Competition) and 29 (Customs Union).
The Intergovernmental Conference will be held on Tuesday, July 14th, on the sidelines of the EU General Affairs Council.
After the closure of these two chapters, Montenegro will have closed 18 out of 33 chapters in negotiations with the EU.
Along with Montenegro, it was decided that Albania would close three chapters, while Ukraine and Moldova would open Cluster number six in the negotiations.
The Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU said that this builds momentum for enlargement and demonstrates the importance that Ireland attaches to enlargement during its presidency.
"Super Tuesday" for expansion
Irish Minister for European Affairs Thomas Byrne said on social media that a "Super Tuesday" in enlargement is expected.
"Today, EU member states agreed to open Cluster Six for Ukraine and Moldova, close Chapters 8 and 29 with Montenegro and Chapters 25, 26 and 30 with Albania. On Tuesday, I will chair the most accession conferences in a single day since 2002," Byrne said.
