Steinmeier congratulates Montenegro on Statehood Day: I respectfully follow Montenegro's European reform course

"I respectfully follow Montenegro's European reform course," said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced that Steinmeier sent his warmest congratulations to the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, and to all citizens of Montenegro on the occasion of the national holiday, Statehood Day.

The statement added that in his congratulatory message, Steinmeier "highlighted the special significance of 2026 for Montenegro, which marks 20 years since the restoration of independence and, through its chairmanship of the Berlin Process, assumes important responsibility for regional stability and good-neighborly cooperation."

"Germany and Montenegro are connected by friendly relations based on shared European values ​​and commitment to democracy, the rule of law and international cooperation," Steinmeier said.

He particularly pointed to the close and partnership-based cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, including the United Nations, NATO, and the Council of Europe.

"The German President said that he respectfully follows Montenegro's European reform course and wished our country much success and good results in further strengthening democratic institutions, the rule of law structures and economic prospects," the statement reads.

"You can count on Germany to continue to support you as a friend and partner," Steinmeier concluded.
