Milatović: The task is to transform the freedom we inherited into a state in which people live with dignity

The task of our generation is to transform the freedom we have inherited into a state in which people live with dignity, said the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

The Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced today that Milatović laid a wreath at the Monument to the Partisan Fighter on the occasion of July 13, the Statehood Day of Montenegro.

"One hundred and forty-eight years ago, on July 13, 1878, Montenegro received international recognition. We were confirmed with the right to exist under our own name and to shape our own future. Eighty-five years ago, on July 13, 1941, our ancestors raised an uprising against fascism. They defended faith in life, faith in freedom and faith in dignity. And not everyone wore uniforms. Some wore only the faith that a person must remain upright when times come when it is easier to remain silent than to speak, easier to bow down than to stand up. Twenty years ago, on May 21, 2006, we restored the independence of Montenegro. We took on the responsibility to build the future of our country ourselves," Milatović emphasized.

He added that each generation of Montenegro had its own task and its own responsibility.

"This is the task of our generation. To transform the freedom we inherited into a state in which people live with dignity, in which they work and in which they stay. A state in which students know that knowledge is valued and that effort is recognized. In which young people see a reason and an opportunity to build their future here. In which every person does their job honestly, believing that they are contributing to their family and their country. That will be our greatest victory. That will be the greatest victory of our generation - to leave future generations a Montenegro that is fairer, stronger and more worthy of those who created it. Long live Montenegro. Happy Statehood Day," Milatović said.
