Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović and Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro Aleksa Bečić laid a wreath in Virpazar, in front of the Monument to the Revolution, on the occasion of marking July 13 - the Statehood Day of Montenegro, the Ministry of Defense announced.
On this occasion, the government department added, tribute was paid to all the fighters and citizens who, 85 years ago, guided by the ideals of freedom, dignity and love for the homeland, stood up to defend Montenegro.
"We returned to where it all began, to Virpazar, in front of the Monument of the Revolution, to the place where the first rebel guns rang out 85 years ago and sent a message of lasting loyalty to Montenegro," said Krapović.
As he said, that historical moment remained deeply embedded in the collective memory of our people.
"The July Uprising represents one of the brightest examples of resistance, courage and determination to preserve the freedom and state dignity of Montenegro. From those freedom-loving shots to today, when we have a modern Montenegrin Army, one thing has remained unchanged, the duty to serve our country and its citizens," said Krapović.
The Montenegrin Army, the statement states, continues to preserve the values on which modern Montenegro is based, freedom, peace, responsibility and dedication to the common good.
"The memory of July 13th obliges us to be worthy of the sacrifices of those who fought for the future of our country," Bečić emphasized.
"On behalf of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro, we extend our sincere congratulations to all citizens on the occasion of July 13th - the Statehood Day of Montenegro," the statement reads.
