Montenegro continues to show that the path to the European Union (EU) becomes easier when everyone in the country acts in the same direction, said Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, adding that the country must preserve political unity in order to conclude accession negotiations by the end of the year.

In a post on the X network, she stated that Montenegrin MPs from across the political spectrum elected the two remaining judges of the Constitutional Court.

"This further strengthens an institution of key importance for the rule of law and progress in Chapter 23 - Judiciary and Fundamental Rights, which is crucial for the closure of accession negotiations," Kos stressed.

As she added, this is another excellent result of last week's inter-party agreement on laws concerning Montenegro's European path.

"Such unity must continue so that Montenegro can reach its goal and complete EU accession negotiations by the end of this year," Kos said.

Predrag Krstonijević and Jelena Ružičić were elected today by the Parliament of Montenegro as judges of the Constitutional Court.

Krstonijević was elected with the votes of 64 deputies, while five deputies abstained. The abstentions were deputies from the Bosniak Party (BS).

69 MPs voted for Ružičić.
