The Democratic People's Party (DNP) strongly condemns the media attacks on Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, our proven friend on the European path, announced today Jovana Todorović, DNP spokesperson.
"The accusations that Ms. Kos was an associate of the Yugoslav UDBE are certainly unpleasant, especially since we deal with the legacy of communism, Marx and Engels in Montenegro on a daily basis, but we sincerely believe that the Commissioner for Enlargement will manage to defend herself from these unfounded attacks coming from the new government of Janez Janša, and that she will not be dismissed until our country joins the EU. As far as we understand, no one is holding Ms. Kos against the fact that she was allegedly an associate of the UDBE, but rather that she did not admit it, because it is not a sin to work for the service of your own country, while it is a crime if you work for the services of other countries. So we are convinced that Ms. Kos will manage to deal with all these accusations, and that she will not be dismissed from the position of Commissioner for Enlargement in September," Todorović stressed in a statement.
She added that "DNP is simultaneously using the opportunity to call for the protection of Montenegrin doctors, 250 of them, whom the PES MP called thieves and prone to corruption."
"Also, the DNP expects solidarity towards educational workers, whom PES MP Darko Dragović insulted at the last session as unworthy of any serious occupation, except teaching in some rural schools. We believe that our colleagues who have been lamenting the fate of Marta Kos and her possible dismissal these days should first condemn the attacks on health and educational workers who have been suffering the most heinous qualifications from PES MPs these weeks. If we have to choose whether to protect doctors and professors or Marta Kos, our choice is doctors and professors. And we wish Ms. Kos good health and many more banquets and cocktails in her capacity as EU Enlargement Commissioner," the statement reads.
