Traffic accidents have shown that traffic in Bar has reached its limit, said the president of Biram Montenegro - Biram Bar, Radomir Novaković Cakan.
He said, Bar has been developing rapidly in recent years.
"New settlements are being built, the number of residents, tourists and vehicles is growing, but the traffic infrastructure has not kept up with this development. The latest traffic accidents, which occurred at the very beginning of the tourist peak, have once again shown that traffic in our city has reached its limit. Fortunately, there were no serious consequences for human lives. However, each of these accidents caused kilometer-long queues and a complete traffic jam. A special problem is the fact that Bar practically does not have an adequate alternative traffic route, so even a minor accident is enough to block the city. In such situations, the passage of ambulances, firefighters and police is difficult, the transport of goods and the supply of the economy is slowed down, while citizens and tourists wait for hours to reach their destinations," Novaković pointed out.
He added that the fact that Bar is today one of the municipalities with the largest number of active construction sites in Montenegro is additionally worrying.
"This is an indicator of development, but it also places an additional burden on the existing road infrastructure, which is already struggling to meet the needs of the city. Therefore, it is high time that traffic becomes one of the key priorities of both local and state authorities. Bar does not need temporary solutions, but serious, planned and long-term investments that will accompany its further development and the needs of its citizens," he said.
Novaković added that, as a councilor in the Bar Municipal Assembly, he has information that work is underway to find a solution to relieve traffic congestion.
"At the next session of the Assembly, I will request information on how far we have come, what solutions are planned and when citizens can expect the first concrete results. As a Baranin and a councilor in the Bar Municipal Assembly, I cannot calmly observe that we are facing the same problems year after year. I sincerely believe that Bar can and must be a modern, well-organized and safe Mediterranean city, but only if its development is accompanied by responsible and planned construction of transport infrastructure. We owe this to our fellow citizens, our children and everyone who comes to our city," concluded Novaković.
