The Presidents of Montenegro and Egypt, Jakov Milatović and Abdel Fattah El Sisi, opened a new chapter in the relations between the two countries today in Cairo, Milatović's office announced.

Recalling that this year marks two decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, they said that the two statesmen confirmed their shared commitment to stronger political dialogue, more intensive economic cooperation, and more concrete linking of the economies and institutions of the two countries.

"One of the most significant results of the meeting is the agreement on specifying the necessary activities towards opening the Embassy of Montenegro in Cairo, which will mark the first time that Montenegro has established a permanent diplomatic mission in Egypt," the statement reads.

The opening of the embassy will, as announced, represent an important step forward in the development of political, economic and overall bilateral relations, as well as the first diplomatic mission of Montenegro in that part of the world.

"The presidents agreed that the friendly relations between Montenegro and Egypt are entering a new phase, which will be marked by more regular political dialogue, stronger economic linkages, greater investment and trade exchange, as well as more intensive cooperation in the areas of maritime affairs, tourism, trade and culture," Milatović's office added.

El Sisi assessed that the celebration of twenty years of diplomatic relations and Milatović's visit represent an opportunity for a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.

"I am confident that through stronger political dialogue and more intensive economic cooperation, we will achieve concrete results of mutual interest," said the Egyptian president.

Milatović was welcomed in Cairo with the highest state honors, at the beginning of an official visit to Egypt.

El Sisi welcomed him at the presidential palace, after which a formal ceremony was held with the singing of national anthems and a review of the honor guard.
