Milatović's Cabinet: Attending the "Storm" commemoration is not a state obligation for Montenegro

Attending the commemoration of the anniversary of Operation Storm is not a state obligation of Montenegro, the Office of President Jakov Milatović announced.

The Cabinet stated that for many in Croatia, "Storm" is a symbol of victory in the war, but that for a large number of Serbs it is a symbol of suffering, persecution, and loss of homes.

"Montenegro fosters good relations with Croatia as a neighboring country and partner on the European path. These relations are based on mutual respect and cooperation, but not on mandatory attendance at events that also evoke painful memories for a large number of citizens in Montenegro," the statement said.

The Office of the President stated that the responsible state policy of a civic and European Montenegro implies moderation and respect for all victims of wars in the former Yugoslavia, without a selective approach.
