Jojić - Mujović: Priority is the construction of the Athletics Stadium in Podgorica

Minister of Sports and Youth Zoran Jojić hosted the Mayor of the Capital City, Saša Mujović, and the Secretary of the Secretariat for Sports, Darko Nikčević, in their first official visit.

This was announced today by the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

According to them, during the meeting, they discussed current and planned projects important for the development of sports in Podgorica, as well as new opportunities for improving cooperation between the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Capital City.

"A special focus of the meeting was on the development of sports infrastructure, and in particular on the project to build the Athletics Stadium. The interlocutors agreed that the construction of the Athletics Stadium is one of the key priorities in the further development of sports infrastructure in Podgorica. It was emphasized that the conceptual design for this project has been completed, the project terms of reference have been prepared by the Agency for Construction and Development of Podgorica and have been agreed with the Athletics Federation of Montenegro, and this represents an important step towards implementation. The construction of the Athletics Stadium will provide modern conditions for training and competitions of athletes, but also contribute to the further development of athletics and the organization of sports events in Podgorica," the statement said.

As the Ministry adds, among the priority infrastructure projects is the reconstruction of the eastern stand of the City Stadium under Gorica, for which a building permit has been obtained, while a tender for the selection of a contractor is expected in the coming period.

"The interlocutors also referred to the initiative to build a national football stadium with a capacity of around 20.000 seats, assessing that the implementation of such a project would represent a significant step forward for Montenegrin sport and enable better organization of football events in Montenegro. Minister Jojić emphasized that the Ministry of Sports and Youth has excellent cooperation with the Secretariat for Sports of the Capital City and that the partnership between the two institutions will be a strong support for the implementation of joint projects in the field of sports," the statement reads.
