Australian Ambassador Peter Truswell visits Tivat

Australian Ambassador Peter Truswell visited Tivat, where he was hosted by the Mayor of Tivat, Željko Komnenović.

"During the meeting, the social and economic situation in Tivat, the vision of the city's development in the coming period, as well as the possibilities for improving cooperation between Montenegro and Australia were discussed. A special focus of the conversation was on the potential for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, especially considering the recent establishment of the Montenegrin-Australian Chamber of Commerce. It was also emphasized at the meeting that the Montenegrin community in Australia numbers around 3.000 people, which represents an additional basis for connecting and developing various forms of cooperation," the Tivat Mayor's office announced today on this occasion.

Komnenović informed the ambassador about the results achieved by Tivat in the previous period, with a special focus on the tourist season, which, according to previous indicators, is among the most successful. They also discussed the infrastructural challenges and limitations the city faces, as well as Tivat's development prospects.

One of the topics of the meeting was the European integration of Montenegro, namely the perspective of its imminent accession to the European Union, with special emphasis on the opportunities and obligations that membership would bring to local self-governments.

During his stay in Tivat, Ambassador Truswell also had the opportunity to meet with Australian citizens who live and work in this city.

The President of the Municipality of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, and the Australian Ambassador, Peter Truswell, expressed their willingness to continue and intensify cooperation, with an appropriate exchange of gifts at the end of the meeting.
