The BS MP club sent a request to AMU for monitoring regarding the content from Ratko Mladić's funeral.

"We would like to draw special attention to the event of September 6, when during the broadcast of the football match Crvena zvezda – Partizan on the Arena Sport 1 channel, a banner with the image of Ratko Mladić was shown, while the commentator called for a minute of silence on the occasion of his death and introduced him as the Commander of the Main Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska," the Bosniak Party said in a statement.

The Bosniak Party (BS) parliamentary group announced that it had sent the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU) a request for urgent monitoring and action regarding program content broadcast on September 6 and 7, 2026, which, they claim, related to the funeral of Ratko Mladić, who was finally convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

According to them, the television channels RTRS, Kurir TV and Tanjug, among others, broadcast live broadcasts and special programs dedicated to the funeral of Ratko Mladić, which were also available to users in Montenegro through distribution systems.

"We would like to draw special attention to the event of September 6, when during the broadcast of the football match Crvena zvezda – Partizan on the Arena Sport 1 channel, a banner with the image of Ratko Mladić was shown, while the commentator called for a minute of silence on the occasion of his death and introduced him as the Commander of the Main Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska," the BS statement said.

The party said that they do not question the right of the media to report on events of public interest, but that informing the public cannot be "an excuse for glorifying, relativizing, or affirmatively presenting a person who has been finally convicted of genocide and the most serious war crimes."

"Therefore, we ask the Agency to urgently monitor the entire programs in question, not just individual segments, and determine whether Ratko Mladić, his role in the wars of the 1990s, or the crimes for which he was convicted were presented in them in a manner that glorifies, relativizes, or denies war crimes and genocide. We remind you that in February this year, the Agency Council already initiated proceedings against the broadcasters Informer TV and TV Prva RS due to content that, among other things, glorifies finally convicted war criminals in programs available in Montenegro," it states.

BS adds that they expect the same standards to be applied in this case, regardless of which broadcaster produces the content in question.

"Montenegro must have a clear and principled attitude towards war crimes and their victims. Freedom of the media is the foundation of a democratic society, but it does not imply the freedom to present war criminals as heroes. We expect the Agency to carefully investigate the case, establish all relevant facts and clearly inform the public about the monitoring findings and any measures taken," the statement from the Bosniak Party parliamentary group reads.
