Montenegro remains firmly committed to preserving the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, said Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović.
As announced by the Government, Ivanovic received a farewell visit from the Ambassador of Ukraine to Montenegro, Oleh Herasimenko.
The interlocutors, as stated, referred to the traditionally friendly relations between Montenegro and Ukraine, the current situation in that country, as well as Montenegro's support for Ukraine.
Ivanovic stressed that Montenegro remains firmly committed to preserving the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
He emphasized that Montenegro, in accordance with its capacities and international obligations, continues to provide support through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, as well as within the United Nations, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.
"The importance of investing sustained diplomatic efforts in establishing a just and sustainable peace, based on international law and reliable security guarantees, was particularly emphasized," the statement said.
Speaking about the European path, Ivanovic offered Montenegro's full readiness, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between Montenegro and Ukraine, signed this year.
Herasimenko, it was added, expressed deep gratitude to Montenegro for its principled, continuous and strong support from the very beginning of the Russian aggression.
As reported, Herasimenko praised the institutions of Montenegro, emphasizing that the state, with its concrete contributions, is a true inspiration on the European path and a reliable friend in the most challenging moments.
"The meeting also confirmed mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation in the areas of security and defense, economy, tourism, digital transformation, and justice, with the assessment that there is significant room for its further intensification through specific projects," the government said.
