"For the Democratic Party of Socialists, this represents another confirmation of its European credibility, but above all, a responsibility to contribute to the achievement of the most important state and party goal - for Montenegro to become the next member of the European Union"

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced that today in Strasbourg it is the first political party from Montenegro and the region that will, through the new observer program of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group, be directly involved in the meetings and parliamentary activities of one of the leading political groups in the European Parliament.

As announced by the DPS, this important step forward for the party, but also for Montenegrin parliamentarism, was made official during a meeting between representatives of the S&D group and a DPS delegation consisting of the party's vice president and MP Ivan Vuković, head of the MPs' Club in the Parliament of Montenegro Andrija Nikolić, and Secretary for International Cooperation Jasmin Bojadžić.

"The new observer program will enable DPS representatives to cooperate more closely with S&D group members, attend its meetings and be involved in parliamentary activities and the work of working bodies, without decision-making rights, thus preparing for the future full participation of Montenegrin members of parliament in the work of the European Parliament after our country's accession to the European Union," it was announced.

The special significance of the event, it is added, is reflected in the fact that Montenegro is the first country among the candidate countries for membership for which the S&D group is establishing such a program.

"Thus, DPS, as a sister party of the European Socialists and Democrats, is given a unique opportunity to transfer the experience of European parliamentarism to Montenegro and additionally contribute to the preparation of its institutions for future EU membership. For the Democratic Party of Socialists, this represents another confirmation of its European credibility, but above all, a responsibility to contribute to the achievement of the most important state and party goal - for Montenegro to become the next member of the European Union," it was announced.
