The development of Ulcinj must be a joint priority of the municipality and the state, but also above political differences, said the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović, adding that the state must be a stronger partner to the city.
As announced by his office, Milatović held a meeting in Ulcinj today with the President of the Municipality, Gencij Nimanbegu, as well as with former presidents and officials.
It is stated that the meeting discussed the city's development potential, priority projects, and ways for the state and local government to jointly contribute to its stronger economic development.
As announced, the meeting was attended by Gzim Hajdinaga, Nazif Cungu, Fatmir Gjeka, Aleksandar Dabović, Omer Bajraktari and Mehmet Bardhi.
"Experiences in running the city, infrastructure and development projects, tourism, attracting investments and better valorization of Ulcinj's natural and economic potential were discussed," the statement said.
It is stated that Milatović said that the development of Ulcinj must be above political differences and that the experience of people who have held responsibility for the city in different periods should be put to use in the function of its future.
"Ulcinj is a city with enormous potential, but it has waited too long for it to be fully transformed into development. Regardless of political differences and who held responsible positions at what time, we must be united by the interests of Ulcinj and its citizens," said Milatović.
As he added, the state must be a stronger partner for Ulcinj.
"And we must turn development ideas into concrete projects, investments, new jobs and a better quality of life," said Milatović.
He pointed out that Ulcinj, thanks to its location, natural resources, tourist potential and people, can be one of the important drivers of the development of the Montenegrin economy.
"We can no longer just talk about Ulcinj's potential. It is time to turn it into development. We must together define priorities, remove obstacles and create conditions for investments that bring new value and new jobs. When we develop Ulcinj, we also develop Montenegro," said Milatović.
According to a statement from Milatović's cabinet, the meeting also discussed extending the tourist season, connecting tourism with culture, agriculture and sports, improving infrastructure, as well as creating new opportunities for young people.
Milatović emphasized that the development of Ulcinj requires continuity, a stronger partnership between local and state authorities, and dialogue with people who know the city and can contribute to its progress with their experience.
"It was concluded that the development of Ulcinj must be a joint effort, with clear priorities and concrete results in the interest of its citizens," the statement concluded.
