The opposition's decisions to boycott the parliament are based on their unrealistic pre-election projections about their own strength, said the political director of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Tarzan Milošević, saying that the opposition's demands should be in line with reality.

He said that the political situation in Montenegro is stable, stating that in the parliamentary elections in October last year, the DPS earned the highest confidence of the citizens and, together with the traditional coalition partners, formed the new Montenegrin Government in the shortest possible time.

This, he added, was confirmed by all the reports of the international observation missions that followed the elections in Montenegro, and with their signatures on the minutes from all polling stations, the opposition also confirmed the results of the freely expressed will of the citizens.

"Subsequent decisions of the opposition to boycott the parliament are, I believe, of a temporary nature and are based on their unrealistic pre-election projections about their own strength. Their absence from the parliament cannot in any way affect the legitimacy of the decisions made," Milošević told the Mina agency.

As he said, the principle of democracy is very precise - the majority decides, and laws are based on that.

"Therefore, decisions in the parliament are made by the majority, regardless of whether the opposition is present or not".

Regarding the opposition's request to repeat the parliamentary elections, Milošević said that the opposition has the right to make whatever demands it wants, "but it is more important than that to harmonize those demands with reality".

"One parliamentary election has just ended, the Government of Prime Minister Marković and the parliament have been formed and are functioning regularly, I believe that will be the case until 2020, during this year we have elections in several Montenegrin municipalities, and in 2018 we have presidential elections and local elections in 16 municipalities," he said.

As he added, the opposition knows very well what the legal procedure is for requesting extraordinary parliamentary elections.

"And that cannot be done without the Assembly and participation in the work of the Assembly. The question here is not what the DPS is or is not ready for, but whether the opposition is ready to respect Montenegrin laws," Milošević said.

He believes that at least those parties that have NATO membership as a strategic goal in their programs will be present in the parliament when, as he said, the most important decision on the future of the state of Montenegro is made.

"If nothing else, at least because of the importance of the historical moment and the direction in which Montenegro will develop in the future," said Milošević.

As he said, he believes that the opposition will not boycott the elections in Nikšić "because it knows very well that a boycott is not a solution and that it is not an acceptable European practice".

"I am also convinced that they will not fail to prove their strength in the local elections in Nikšić because, if it is as they claim, there is no reason for them to be afraid of the results. I expect the local elections in Nikšić to take place in a democratic atmosphere and, of course, another victory for DPS ", Milošević said.

According to him, DPS has already defined the agenda of political activities when it comes to the elections in Nikšić. "It is still early to talk about the performance method, but after the results achieved in that city in the parliamentary elections, as well as the results achieved by the Nikšić local administration, we are convinced of a convincing victory".

Milošević said that DPS has no reason to fear the results in any municipality, as well as at the state level.

"Citizens make an excellent assessment of who they will trust based on the demonstrated results of their work and the quality of their own lives. In Nikšić, we ourselves said four years ago that there were mistakes and that we would correct them, the citizens trusted us and we justified that trust," he said. is he.

This, he said, is also shown by the results from Nikšić in the parliamentary elections. "I am convinced that it will be even clearer in March at the local elections".

Commenting on the results of a public opinion survey by the Center for Democracy and Human Rights, according to which citizens' support for DPS is lower than ever, i.e. below 40 percent, Milošević said that the question must first be asked who commissioned the survey, and only then comment on its results.

"Researches that DPS conducts for its own needs and does not publicly announce their results, give a very clear cross-section of citizens' support, not only for us, but also for other parties, and that is what we adhere to in our work, we are still a party with an excellent rating and the greatest trust of the citizens of Montenegro", Milošević concluded.
