A radio signal from deep space (about 1,5 billion light-years away from Earth) has reached Earth, scientists from the University of British Columbia (UBC) announced.

What makes this announcement fascinating is that this is only the second time in history that a radio signal reaching Earth has been repetitive.

Theories of what causes radio signals from that distance in space range from exploding stars that are at a great distance from our planet, to transmissions emitted by some more advanced life form (aliens), the British Independent announced.

However, for now, like the first time a repeating radio signal reached the Earth, it will remain a mystery, because it is a small cause for a scientific conclusion to be reached.

A new radio signal is repeated six times from the same location.

"Until now, we've only had one repeating signal. With more repeating signals like this, we'll be able to study them, but also understand and solve this cosmic puzzle," said Ingrid Sters, a member of the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME ), and an astrophysicist from UBC.
