A very well-preserved fossil of a bird from the Ice Age was found in northeastern Siberia, Anadolia reports.
By studying the fossil remains of the bird, scientists determined that it was a specimen of a mountain lark.
The investigation into the remains of the animal, which hunters found near the village of Belaja Gora, was submitted to a group of experts, including Nikolas Daseks and Love Dalen from the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
It was discovered that the bird lived about 46.000 years ago, Anatolia reports.
Dalen said the bird may be the ancestor of two subspecies, one living in northern Russia and the other in the Mongolian steppes.
In the part of Siberia where the bird was found, the remains of a wolf, mammoth and rhinoceros were previously found.
