A research lab of a mysterious start-up company has opened in Cambridge, working to invent technology that could extend life. That project was allegedly supported by billionaire Jeff Bezos.
"MIT Technology Review" reports that the startup Altos Labs is trying to bring in experts and is offering them an annual salary of around $XNUMX million.
It is also expected to launch research centers in Japan and San Francisco. Their goal is to create a technology that could rejuvenate the cells of animal tissues, which should lead to a longer life span, Index reports.
Scientists who join the company are expected to research how cells age and what could be done to reverse that process.
The field of science has attracted billionaires before, including Google co-founder Larry Page and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, who funded a San Francisco company called Unity Biotechnology.
Reportedly, Altos Labs has already received support from Yuri Milner and Jeff Bezos. While the representatives of Bezos' company did not make an official comment, the Russian-Israeli billionaire Milner confirmed that he invested money in that company.
Bezos also invested money in the company "Unity Biotechnology", whose goal is to "extend the period in which a person is free from diseases that occur due to aging."
MIT Technology Review claims that Altos Labs has raised at least $270 million since it was founded late last year.
The global market for anti-aging technologies is expected to exceed $2024 billion by 271.
