Since the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) were released in July, many have been fascinated by the stunning photographs of the vastness of space: from incredibly detailed images of Jupiter and the perfect Einschung's ring, to the most distant known star.
Now "Web" has surprised us again. It peered in detail into the center of the Eagle Nebula, 6.500 light-years away, and gave us an incredible view of the enchanting structures known as the Pillars of Genesis. N1.
"They were recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995 and 2014, and they are among the most famous objects observed by that telescope. Now we see them in a different way. We see them much more clearly, contrasted and detailed. Thanks to imaging in the near-infrared region, we see much better their structure, we see many more stars forming in these dense clusters of gas and dust. We have a more penetrating view through that fog where new stars are formed and born. You can see many young stars that are only a few hundred thousand years old," said astronomer Ante Radonić.
Standing inside a vast cosmic cloud like giant fingers, the Pillars of Genesis first came to widespread public attention when they were photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995. These celestial pillars, magnificent clouds of glowing dense dust and gas stretching several light-years into space, were unlike anything seen before.
Now JWST, the most sensitive space telescope in history, has given us their most detailed picture yet.
