The camera of the "Luča" satellite has sent the first photo showing part of the Earth's surface above the open ocean,
Montenegro Space Research announced that it has begun testing the main payload, or useful load, of the satellite.
"As part of these activities, among other things, the camera was tested, resulting in the first photograph ever recorded from the first Montenegrin satellite. With further operational work and additional communication sessions, the satellite will send new photographs in better quality, and in the coming period we expect images of the territory of Montenegro from space," the statement said.
As part of the next phase of operational work, they add, the Luča satellite will begin official communication by broadcasting the first message to Earth, and the public will be informed of the content in a timely manner.
The Chief Engineer of Montenegro Space Research, Nikola Perović, confirmed that all key satellite systems are functional, and that, after initial testing, it can be concluded that Luča is operating fully in accordance with the planned parameters.
The Director of Montenegro Space Research, Filip Jovićević, said that "Luča" is not just a satellite, but a clear message that Montenegro possesses the knowledge, ambition and capacities to rise above its own horizon and become part of the global space community.
