Volunteerism, a new type of tourism, was promoted today to a group of non-governmental and business sector organizations.
Representatives of the Association for Democratic Prosperity - ZID promoted the cross-border IPA project "Open borders for adventures and new travel opportunities" to activists from Bar and Ulcinj.
The goal of the project is the affirmation of volunteer tourism in general, and of volunteers as possible guests of local tourism businesses.
Sanela Pajazitović and Miljana Radović from the ZID indicated that according to the results of surveys, more and more tourists want to use their stay at the vacation destination partly for volunteering in the local community, ranging from participation in cleaning, to visiting homes for children and the elderly, to transfer of knowledge and skills. In order to accept such guests, a synergy is needed between civil sector organizations that prepare activities for volunteering, and hoteliers and travel agencies that make arrangements and direct acceptance of these guests.
"Voluntourism is an innovation in the community and is aimed at tourists interested in active vacations and getting to know the destination through direct social contact and participation in socially responsible programs. It is also the basis for the development of tourist products that will contribute to the attractiveness of the border areas of Croatia and Montenegro", announced is on promotion.
This IPA project lasts 18 months, the coordinators are Association "MI" from Croatia and ADP "Zid" from Montenegro, and the partners are "Association for the Development of Civil Society Bonsai", "Association of Croatian Travel Agencies" and Municipality of Herceg Novi.
