The Ministry of Health expresses its concern over the case of a five-year-old girl from Rožaj, who died as a result of etiol poisoning, and appeals to parents and all citizens not to use for treatment preparations that are not intended for human use and are not used for medical purposes, as they endanger health and life, but that, if they need health services, they should contact only health workers, the Ministry of Health announced.
"This example, unfortunately, with a tragic outcome, is a confirmation that we must continuously work on raising the awareness of the population about the proper attitude towards their own health and the health of their loved ones, because one of the general measures, prescribed by law, is the health education of the population. The health system, in in accordance with the law, strives to provide a high level of protection of people's lives and health and undertakes all measures to prevent and control diseases. The primary level of health care, i.e. health centers, are the basic and first level at which a citizen obtains health care. Elected doctors, among others , work to improve the health of citizens, organize health education and education about the most common health problems in a certain territory and methods of their identification, prevention and control and detection of diseases," the announcement states.
As it is added, the Ministry of Health ordered the health institutions to, in cooperation with the Institute of Public Health, undertake specific activities aimed at informing the wider public in order to raise awareness of the need to conduct health education in the work with each patient, in order to avoid the dangers of life and health of citizens.
"Also, it was ordered that health centers, in cooperation with educational institutions, sports and other organizations that perform service activities, communities and associations of citizens, implement health education for patients with infectious diseases, family members of the patient and all others who are at risk of of contracting infectious diseases".
In order to prevent similar situations, the Institute of Public Health has prepared a leaflet, which will be distributed to parents through kindergartens, schools and health centers, and has started distributing instructions for the hygiene and epidemiological services of health centers in Montenegro, regarding their activities aimed at the local population and health professionals, in order to raise awareness of the need to implement health education in working with each patient.
