One of the two massive buttresses on the northern wall of the city ramparts of Kotor, on the stretch from the northern city brothers towards the Bembo bastion, gave way this morning and began to collapse.
The high triangular stone building, which "leans" on the outside of the ramparts and supports them, completely separated from the wall and leaned towards the Škurda river, in whose bed is the foundation of the buttress.
The Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property has been informed about everything, which is expected to take the most urgent measures to prevent the ser buttress from completely collapsing, as well as to urgently repair this part of the ancient ramparts of Kotor's Old Town. On the same part of the ramparts, only on their inner side, a month and a half ago, a ten-meter-long part of the fence wall collapsed.
Otherwise, although they are one of its most recognizable and valuable architectural features of the city under the protection of UNESCO, Kotor's ramparts are quite neglected.
The state has so far shown great carelessness towards this historic cultural monument, even allowing the ramparts to be breached on purpose for the purpose of carrying out work in certain catering establishments in the Old Town, as was the case a few years ago with part of the western rampart near the Citadel on the city's waterfront.
