The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, announced that the Vijesti media house, which he owns yesterday asked to take a personal interest in the outcome of the hacker attacks on the vijesti.me portal, did not submit to the Police Directorate a report with the necessary data on hacker attacks, and that further criminal processing of the case requires more adequate cooperation and communication between the editors and administrators of Vijesta and the foreign provider with the competent state authorities of Montenegro.
"On the occasion of the public address you addressed to me regarding the hacker attacks on the portal www.vijesti.me, I would like to inform you that I have immediately requested a statement from the Police Administration regarding your allegations. From their response, it is clear that your company did not officially report the attacks you sent me a letter about, but that the officers of the Group for Combating High-Tech Crime upon learning contacted your editor, with the intention of getting more information about where the attacks on the Vijesti portal are coming from. and who is behind them. However, a report with the necessary data on hacker attacks was not submitted to the Police Directorate, which is justified by the fact that a foreign company takes care of the cyber security of your portal, and that you cannot submit the requested report. Therefore, the authorities under the jurisdiction of this Government have launched an investigation into the cyber attack on your portal, and the report on the attacks is necessary in order to obtain data that will enable the police to carry out further criminal investigations", reads the letter of the Prime Minister, Marijana Kadić Bojanić, executive director of Vijesta.
Marković states in the letter that cyber attacks on the Vijesti portal are not an isolated case, nor an exception, and that only in January of this year, tens of thousands of cyber attacks were registered and rejected, which were directed at the infrastructure of state bodies from different addresses.
"An effective response to this type of criminal activity, which has international proportions, is a serious challenge for institutions. Therefore, together with our partners, we are developing institutional and operational capacities for their suppression and elimination. I also remind you that the protection and security of your portal is the responsibility of the foreign provider you hired, and I want to point out that in this particular case, more adequate cooperation and communication with the competent state authorities, both the provider and the editors and administrators of your portal, is necessary" - concluded Marković in a letter addressed to the executive director of Vijesti.
