On the occasion of commemorating 75 years since the appearance and 55 years since the renewal of the former Beran newspaper "Sloboda", last night in the gallery of the Polim Museum, organized by the Municipality of Berane, the exhibition "Beranska Sloboda" was opened, where about 100 covers from the 43 years of publication of this newspaper were displayed on the billboards.

The exhibition was organized by Sonja Savić, a journalist and the last editor of the newspaper "Sloboda".

"It was necessary to leaf through the bound "Sloboda" from the archives of this newspaper dear to us, which is in Radio Berane, and, by the years of publication, sort them by editors. It was not really practical to present this, I can say, important documentation about a time and transmits, so we decided to take photos and transmit them to billboards," said Savić.

She added that this exhibition represents emotional moments for all those who organized and created it.

The president of the Berane municipality, Dragoslav Šćekić, pointed out that in the year when journalism in Montenegro celebrates 145 years, and the Association of Journalists celebrates 70 years, "Sloboda", unfortunately, does not celebrate, but commemorates 75 years since the first issue from the war in 1941, and 55 years since its continuous release.

Šćekić said that "Freedom" was a chronicle of social, economic and cultural life, art, literature, science, "it is a chronicle of our soul and spirit, customs, desires, plans, realized and unrealized".

"Its pages were always open to creators of various vocations, journalists, thinkers from our country and other parts of the country and abroad, less often. Outside of Beran, it was read most and most willingly in Belgrade, where for decades every issue was eagerly awaited. "Sloboda" was read with pleasure famous intellectuals, journalists and other creators, but also ordinary people," Šćekić said.

The exhibition was attended by the former editors and journalists of this local newspaper, the family of the first post-war editor Miloš Bakić, as well as other admirers of this paper.

From 1961, for 43 years of continuous publication under the auspices of the state, that is, the Municipality, until its abolition on January 1, 2004, 870 issues were printed.

The founders and first editors of "Sloboda" in the whirlwind of war in 1941 were the greats of the written word, Veselin Masleša and Radovan Zogović. Only one copy has been preserved from that time.

The exhibition "Beranska Sloboda" will be open for visitors until October 15.
