Data from the Environmental Inspection show that the plant of the company "Montenegro Petrol", which owns a plant for separation and processing of gravel in Mahala, caused increased air pollution for one day, while the noise level is normal.
"Measurements of PM10 particles at the Mahala location, in the period from April 28 to May 12, 2016, show that there was one exceedance of the limit values - the average daily values in the period from May 11 to 12," the Service for public relations of the Directorate for Inspection Affairs.
Last week, the locals of Mahala asked the authorities through the media to protect them from noise and pollution from the separation, which also operates at night.
Responsible persons from the company "Montenegro Petrol", according to the announcement of the management, stated that on May 11, there was a malfunction of the water pump, which caused an increase in suspended particles during that period.
"The inspector made a decision ordering that, depending on the weather conditions, the material at the plants, deposited material and manipulative surfaces must be kept at a level of humidity that will prevent the emission of dust from them," the institution said.
In order to monitor the operation of the plant and its impact on the environment, the environmental inspector ordered by decision that "Montenegro Petrol" implement a program for monitoring the impact of the plant's operation on the environment through an authorized laboratory, in accordance with the Elaborate on environmental impact assessment, for which the company received environmental approval from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Acting according to the order, it was stated from the administration office, the company engaged an authorized legal entity - "Center for ecotoxicological tests" and the conducted monitoring included noise in the environment and fourteen-day continuous measurement of suspended particles PM10, in the period from April 28 to May 12 current year.
"The measured condition of the daily noise indicator of the crushing plant in Mahala at three measuring positions meets the standard noise levels in accordance with the Decision on establishing acoustic zones on the territory of the capital city of Podgorica," adds the Public Relations Department of this institution.
The Environmental Inspection has announced that, in view of the upcoming dry period, it will strengthen inspection supervision, in part of its competences, at the company "Montenegro Petrol" in the village of Mahala in Zeta.
During the last week, the inhabitants of the Zeta village of Mahala asked the authorities to protect them from the consequences of gravel separation, which, they claim, takes place 24 hours a day.
They stated in the letter that they have had problems with "local separation of sand" for many years, and that the main reason for their address is "the incredible 24-hour working hours of the separation, the noise produced by the crushers and which does not allow for normal life, the dust that covers almost half of the place , as well as the devastation of the Cijevna river bed, which in that part became a larger stream".
