Representatives of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, the Office for Combating Human Trafficking and the non-governmental organization (NGO) Montenegrin Women's Lobby signed today the Memorandum on Cooperation in the Fight against Human Trafficking.
As announced by the Ministry, human trafficking is a global problem and represents one of the most prevalent forms of organized crime, which has reached alarming proportions in recent decades.
It is stated that human trafficking, as the cruelest form of violation of basic human rights, is characterized by physical, psychological, economic and sexual exploitation.
"At today's event, it was announced that, in addition to forced prostitution, human trafficking also includes forced labor, inducement to beg, sale of human organs, false adoption, forced marriage, and coercion to participate in criminal activities," the ministry said in a statement.
As stated, in order to fight against human trafficking more and more successfully, a multi-sector approach and intensive cooperation is necessary.
"The only and best mechanism for successfully and effectively confronting the phenomenon of human trafficking is the establishment of full cooperation and partnership between state authorities, the non-governmental sector and international organizations," said the Ministry.
From that department, they reminded that the Government of Montenegro, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration and the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, opened a shelter for victims of human trafficking in 2004, which is run by activists of the NGO Montenegrin Women's Lobby.
They pointed out that, in order to improve the system of protection of victims of human trafficking, the Government of Montenegro, since 2006, has allocated financial resources from the state budget for the functioning of the Shelter.
