The ecological movement "Ozone" is the winner of this year's competition of the "Trebjesa" brewery, which awards ten thousand euros to the best environmental project. The project "WiFi - waste and the future" aims to familiarize the public with the concept of smart waste management and the possibilities of its application through the circular economy, better intersectoral cooperation, as well as greater media representation of topics from this area. As part of the award-winning project, for the first time in Montenegro it will be possible to see a smart waste collection bin, which will be presented at events in seven cities.

"By purchasing a smart bin, we will show that new technologies can really help solve the problem of packaging waste disposal. This is a big problem both at the local and national level and is often characterized by a low rate of recycling and the gray economy on the market of secondary raw materials," said Aleksandar Perović, director of the Environmental Movement "Ozone" during the symbolic presentation of the check.

Smart bins run on solar energy and "compact" garbage, so they can hold up to eight times more waste than a regular container of the same volume. The bin has a GPS that reacts every time waste is collected and pressed, and when the capacity is filled, it sends an SMS message to the central office that it is time to empty. As Perović said, in addition to the purchase of a smart bin and a promotional tour in seven cities, one of the important activities will be a national conference, where the application of modern technologies for the establishment of a smart waste management system will be discussed. Project activities will last from February to October next year.

This year, 12 NGOs from Podgorica, Nikšić, Cetinje and Ulcinj applied for the brewery competition, the seventh in a row.

"A responsible attitude towards the environment is an important part of our business. We invested 70 euros in ecology through the competition for NGOs alone. Activities related to proper waste management are high on the list of priorities of the company Molson Coors, in which we operate, and which strives to have all waste recycled by 2025. So far, this has been done in 14 breweries of our brewery group", said Natalija Milić, manager of corporate communications in Trebjesa".
