Several production facilities in Montenegro were temporarily banned from working due to the presence of "listeria" bacteria in meat products, such as "njeguška sausage" and "sudžuk", announced the Montenegrin Administration for Inspection Affairs.

Due to the presence of this bacterium in meat products, production facilities "Primato P" from Danilovgrad, "Velmont" from Podgorica and slaughterhouse with processing "Burko" from Bijelo Polje have been temporarily banned from working, according to the announcement.

The products have been put out of circulation both at the manufacturer and in the retail store until the necessary analyzes are performed.

The findings showed the presence of "listeria" bacteria in the disputed products, which can lead to purulent meningitis, meningoencephalitis, encephalitis, and endocarditis, the statement added.

Symptoms caused by this bacterium are manifested by headache, stiff neck, high fever, vomiting, loss of balance, and in more severe cases, disturbances of consciousness, convulsions and muscle paralysis may occur.

In the first two months of this year, 162,5 kilograms of meat was destroyed after irregularities were found in retail stores.

"The reasons for the destruction of the meat were sensory changes, improper declarations and freezing of pork and lamb meat in retail," the announcement stated.
