Kovačević: The events at FK "Zabjelo" show the sad reality of Montenegrin sports

The latest events in FC "Zabjelo" unfortunately show the sad reality of Montenegrin sports, primarily football, said the member of the Main Board of the Democrats, Boško Kovačević.

"The alarming situation in FC "Zabjelo" is only a mirror and escalation of something that has been building up for many years. It is clear to everyone that the state of Montenegro and numerous local governments have long forgotten that sport is a sign of recognition of the country, its affirmation and promotion, bringing people together , healthy guidance of the young generation, reconciliation, that is, in a word, they forgot that sport is life. They forgot that athletes are our best ambassadors, and young athletes are the basis or backbone of the system," said Kovačević

Kovačević added that today the football centers in Podgorica, symbols of the gathering of many generations, have been left to complete collapse.

"Let's remember what they once meant and where FK "Zabjelo", FK "Crvena Stijena", FK "Ribnica", FK "Kom" and many others were. Places of gathering, youth, strength, victory. Today, as we can hear and these days, many even without electricity, basic requisites and working conditions. So, what kind of sports nation are we that deals with our generations, future national team players, the best promoters of our country in this way. As a long-time football player of Budućnosti, Sutjeska, Bokelje, Mornara, Zora, but also Zabjelo and Crvena Stijene, I am concerned about the condition of the football stadiums and supporting infrastructure in Zabjelo and Tološi, the largest urban settlements with tens of thousands of inhabitants and located five minutes from the center Podgorica," Kovačević said.

A member of the Main Committee of the Democrats said that the relationship between local self-government and the state is reprehensible.

"Clubs are grumbling in problems, the enthusiasm of true fans kept them on infusion, but such a way of functioning is no longer sustainable. The alarm clock has sounded and a call to all of us as citizens to defend the future of sports. We must mass sports as the best way of socializing children, return children to sports fields and playgrounds and thus enable their proper development so that tomorrow they will become respected and useful members of the community. As such, they will always be part of the solution, not part of the problem.as long as those in charge, those who are responsible, those who spend our money on themselves and their loved ones still do not want to turn around, let's all contribute and take a small step that can be saving. Let's start from Zabjel, let's help the football club because that way we help ourselves and the future of our children. Tradition is hard to build, but it collapses easily and quickly. Let's not allow that," Kovačević concluded.
