In the National Tourist Organization, they finally admitted that there is no winter season without artificial snow, and thus this year's winter in Montenegro, in terms of tourism, experienced a fiasco.
These days, Žabljak is nothing like the main winter tourist center in the country, and restaurateurs usually invoke snow.
In the Ski Center of Javorovača, they managed to tame by hand and keep what little November there is, so they take care of the rare visitors, hoping for a snow cover in January. The local tourist organization notes that this year's winter season has so far been on par with last year's, which was extremely bad to say the least.
At Javorovača, they are anxiously counting the guests. Although they managed to keep the November snow, the old surface is only suitable for sledges, while skiing is attractive only to beginners.
Restaurateurs are also hoping for good days. The postponement of the school holidays in Serbia, from where they expect to visit next month, is beneficial to them. Until then, they regularly follow the weather reports and assure guests that there will still be snow.
"As far as reservations are concerned, they are regular guests with us, so they did not cancel but extended the date of their visit to Žabljak," says the manager of the Javorovača ski center Vuk Popović.
The Tourist Organization is also looking at the sky. After, as they pointed out, a very successful and working summer season, Žabljak is once again frozen in frost and lethargy.
"The number of guests we have today is somewhere at last year's level. We know that last year was a season we were not satisfied with, and in the private sector we also have a not so good number of guests, and as far as finances are concerned, hoteliers will tell you that, although I think expected much more than is the case these days," says Boro Nikolić from TO Žabljak
Some hoteliers did more for their guests. This means - lower prices and installation of a cable car within the hotel grounds. During the holidays, they say their efforts paid off, but they will have to come up with more tricks for the skiers, again - if there is snow.
"We will try to attract guests with some weekend packages who would come to enjoy skiing on Saturdays and Sundays in Žabljak," says hotelier Nikola Radulović.
And while waiting for snow to revive Žabljak, there are also those who benefit from the time without precipitation.
