No one likes loneliness, and it is especially difficult during the holidays. That's why 25 pensioners from Nikšić are together in the living room for the elderly, the first service of its kind in Montenegro. Some of the users have large families, but they prefer to comment on daily events and compete in social games with their generation.
In addition to the two that are already functioning, a third such facility will be opened in Nikšić.
"I don't really need it, the only thing that bothers me is being alone. We have everything we need from those who serve us, and an old man only needs a kind word," says Rade Đurković, a user of the Day Care Center for the Elderly.
The hours are usually spent reading the daily press and brainstorming over the chess board, and the spirit of gambling has not left them either.
"This is called Battle. Here, a person can fall, not get up, but remain on the chair," says Niko Krsmanović.
And Dragoljub Radojević, even though he is on the threshold of his ninth decade, comes every day on foot to write a few lines in the living room.
"I am engaged in literature. I have already published two books. I gave one as a gift to the club. To tell you the truth, these five days pass sooner than the two days of the weekend, they are so hard for me that I can't wait to come and hang out with these people." says Dragoljub Radojević.
Part of the socializing also takes place in the kitchen, and on special occasions 25 users of the living room go for a walk about the organization of which bthe service employees say.
"Everything is free, they have a small service, tea, coffee, snacks and provided lunch. They use the services of the city laundry for free and we help them achieve social and health protection. We organize trips for them," says Jelena Kovačević, coordinator of the Day Care Service for the Elderly.
In anticipation of the holidays, they were also pleased with a visit.
"The children made us very happy when they decorated this for us. They hung out with us, children are a joy for everyone, and they visited us several times," says Mišo Kankaraš.
In addition to the one in the city center, the service also operates in Humci. New users will have the opportunity to color their days in the same way, because a third facility is being prepared in the Duklo settlement.
