In order to draw attention to the problem of violence against women, employees of the "Roda" supermarket in the Mall of Montenegro shopping center in Podgorica wore T-shirts with campaign motifs during working hours on Saturday as a sign of support for women who have experienced violence.
"At the core of our business is respect for women's rights, and we have never had any dilemmas. This year, we went a step further and joined the campaign against violence against women, in order to influence the development of awareness among employees and consumers that such behavior is not acceptable and that it represents a problem for all of us," Mercator-CG announced.
More than two-thirds of employees in Mercator-CG are women, according to the announcement.
"They are also highly represented in management, where they cover half of the management functions".
The shirts worn by the employees of the "Roda" supermarket were made by clients of the Center for Women's Rights, which provides various types of support to women who have experienced violence and fights for the respect of their rights.
"We were pleased with the Mercator-CG company's initiative to join the '16 days of fighting against violence against women' campaign, because it shows that this company is aware of the need to support social activism in this area. Employers are an important factor in the economic empowerment of women who have experienced violence, but also of women in general, so we believe that the initiative of Mercator-CG will contribute to greater social responsibility of the business sector and improve the position of women, who make up the largest number of employees in all those companies that have sales markets." emphasized in the Center for Women's Rights.
On Saturday, consumers in the "Roda" supermarket also received brochures on the fight against violence against women, with instructions for victims of violence on whom and where they can turn for help.
The "16 days of activism against violence against women" campaign began on November 25, the International Day against Violence against Women. 1.700 organizations in over 100 countries, including Montenegro, are participating in it.
