On Wednesday, the Parents Association asked the Minister of Health, Budimir Šegrt, to respond and ensure, in accordance with the Labor Law, that the demands of the families of the babies who were infected a year ago in the Bjelopolje General Hospital be met in order to end the hunger strike.
"The fathers of the babies continued their hunger strike, for the second time this year, and with the same demand - a demand that is not a simple choice, but based on the Law, specifically the Labor Law. Like a large number of parents who suggest to the association Parents that we try to help families who have been going through Golgotha for a year, we believe that their situation is, to say the least, devastating for our society and that something concrete must be done as a matter of urgency to prevent additional consequences for and families," the statement of the Association of Parents states.
From that organization, they remind that the minister and other competent authorities, with the support of several hundreds of parents, have repeatedly called on them to do everything in their power, "so that the extremely difficult situation of these families, due to everything they have been through, at least does not become more complicated, and this time we have to do the same".
"We hope that a concrete answer will follow this time", stated in the letter to Minister Šegrt.
The fathers of the babies informed the Parents Association that the minister explained to them at the meeting held on Tuesday that their request for the suspension of the doctors against whom charges were filed and criminal proceedings were initiated due to the suspicion that they were responsible for the infection contracted by five babies, of which as a result, one of them died in November last year.
"It was explained to them that there is no legal basis for initiating disciplinary proceedings because three months have passed since the infection occurred, that is, since the baby Knežević died as a result of the infection. On this occasion, the Parents' Association cited the Labor Law to the minister in the section entitled "Dismissal from work", i.e. Article 130, which clearly specifies that an employee will be temporarily dismissed from work, among other things, if criminal proceedings have been initiated against him for a criminal offense committed in work or in relation with work. In the letter to the minister, it was explained that the intention of the request is not to prejudge the court's decision, but rather to wait for its adoption, and above all, respect for the law is requested," the letter to Šegrt states.
That Association invited Minister Šegrt to help his patients in accordance with his powers, as the first person in the health sector in Montenegro.
