72 scientific teams are fighting for one million euros

More than 70 Montenegrin scientific research projects will compete for one million euros awarded by the Ministry of Science, almost half of which come from the fields of medicine and education.

Most of the proposed projects, 50 out of 72, came from the University of Montenegro, seven from the University of Donja Gorica, three from the "Mediterranean" University and 12 from other scientific research institutions.

Of the 72 applications received, most of them came for the field of Science, education and identity (18) and Medicine and human health (17), 10 for the field of Information and Communication Technology, one less for Energy, eight for Sustainable Development and Tourism and six for the field New materials, products and services.

When it comes to the managers of the proposed projects, 40 are men and 32 are women.

"So we are very satisfied with the response", they told "Vijesta" from the Ministry headed by Sanja Damjanović.

The competition for the awarding of grants for scientific research projects, with a total value of one million euros, was closed last week.

The Ministry will approve a grant in the amount of up to 100.000 euros for the accepted project, and if the project foresees the employment of young researchers, doctoral students and/or postdoctoral students, the grant can be up to 130.000 euros.

The obligation at the time of application was that the applicant must apply in partnership with at least one other partner, which can be a scientific research institution abroad or a business entity from Montenegro or abroad.

"The aim of the competition is to increase the capacity of scientific teams in Montenegro, in order to strengthen quality and sustainable partnerships that show the potential to integrate research into the dominant economic drivers in Montenegro and grow into future centers of excellence", explained the Ministry.

Who will receive the grants should be known by the end of the year.

"As we will hire international evaluators for the evaluation of the received projects, we hope that we will be able to complete the evaluation process by the end of 2018, while the implementation of the approved projects will begin next year," said the science department to "Vijesta".
