Every seventh inhabitant of the Municipality of Pljevlja has difficulties in performing daily activities, according to Monstat data.
Out of 30.786 inhabitants, 4.467 of them claim that they have difficulties in performing their daily activities, which is 14,5 percent of the total population and is three percent higher than the national figure.
Disturbances with movement were reported by 2.562, or 8,3 percent of the population. 680 or 2,2 percent have hearing problems and 1.148 or 3,7 percent of the population have vision problems.
436 residents of the northernmost Montenegrin city have problems with memory, concentration and communication, and 1.395, or 4,5 percent, have "other disabilities"...
The largest number of people who have disabilities in performing daily activities (3.916) are in the age group of fifty and over.
41 people from Pljevljak under the age of 15 have problems with performing daily activities, 80 of them are in the 15 to 29 year old category and 416 are in the 29 to 49 year old category.

In order to help elderly fellow citizens, the Municipality of Pljevlja several years ago launched the Care for the Elderly Project, which produced good results.
The Secretary of the Secretariat for Social Activities, Mersudin Halilović, said that he will advocate for the continuation of the project in order to help the elderly in performing their daily duties.
"Loneliness is hard, no one opens the door for many people except our geronto housewives," says Halilović.
The project started as a public work of the Employment Office, and then the Municipality got involved in its implementation. The employment office provides salaries for two geronto housewives for five months and the rest costs are borne by the municipality. This year, 63.000 euros have been allocated for the project.
Since the beginning of the project, 12 geronto-homemakers have been employed, who are currently taking care of 81 elderly people.
Geronto-housekeepers provide assistance to users in providing optimal living conditions, maintaining personal hygiene, providing food in agreement with users, taking care of users' health, performing administrative tasks, as well as assistance in activities to satisfy creative, social, cultural, entertainment and religious needs.
The geronto-homemakers work in pairs and visit three or four users a day, depending on whether it is a married couple.
Danijela Anđelić, an independent advisor for the care of the elderly and social issues, said that there is room for the inclusion of new users.
Anyone interested can submit a request to the Civil Bureau.
The condition is that the user is over 65 years old, regardless of their financial situation, that they are mobile and that they have no mental problems.

Vera Šljukić is one of the geronto housewives who visits the oldest Pljevljaki five days a week. She is a teacher by profession, but after she lost her job after 22 years of work, she decided to work as a homemaker for the elderly.
"At no point do I complain about this job. Time is such that man cannot choose and must be satisfied with what he has. The salary is solid, our seniority is going well, we have insurance, but our status is still unresolved. The project is implemented throughout the year, but every new year is a stress for us, whether there will be a project in the next year and whether there will be funds", said Šljukić.
