In order for the recommendations of the State Audit Institution to be implemented, based on the Report on "Efficiency of using funds from contributions for professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities", it is not necessary to wait for changes to the existing law, nor the adoption of a new Strategy for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities, because the SAI The report clearly states that the competent state authorities were not efficient enough, nor did they undertake the implementation of the planned series of measures in order to achieve greater utilization of funds intended for professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities, said the executive director of the Association of Disabled Youth, Marina Vujačić.
Vujačić said at the meeting with the representatives of the SAI that the Report should be a good basis for the actions of state authorities in accordance with the recommendations, the implementation of which will be monitored by the UMHCG in the coming period.
"We have stated many times that this state of filling the budget at the expense of persons with disabilities suits the authorities perfectly, and this is an opportunity for the authorities to show that persons with disabilities are a constitutional category in practice. The "special protection" of persons with disabilities should not be reflected in millions with funds used by the state. That's why we call on the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Finance, the Employment Agency, the Parliamentary Committee for Labor, Health and Social Welfare, then the Employers' Union and other authorities to do what is their legal obligation as soon as possible, without transferring responsibilities and competences from one to the other," she said.
Vujacic also called on the media "to report objectively and precisely on this topic, because sensationalism or turning the focus to any side, except in the direction of the state's obligations, the necessity of implementing and respecting laws and other policies, only harms people with disabilities and encourages the public to delusion and taking wrong positions".
"Over the past few days, sensationalist headlines with insulting and derogatory terms referring to persons with disabilities have been seen in some media, along with accompanying photos that indicate an additional devaluation of the position and existence of persons with disabilities, as individuals and/or citizens." , she said.
