Technical director of the Podgorica Waterworks, Filip Makrid, said that water meters could soon be the company's concern.

He is for Radio Montenegro said that a request was sent to the competent secretariat for a decision by which the owners of individual buildings would pay a euro for the maintenance of water meters, and in buildings where the measuring instrument for used water is shared by several apartments - the fee would amount to 38 cents.

Makrid also said that the installation of water meters on the newly built water supply system in Zeta will also begin these days.

"Our company is trying to do what is the practice in the majority of water supply companies in Montenegro, which is to introduce fees for the maintenance of measuring instruments and in this way to raise the quality of the service, that is, to perform an action that will certainly be in to the function of the citizens of Podgorica. All the more so because through this fee we will ensure that all water meters and all water measuring instruments are properly maintained in accordance with standards and norms. At this moment, our company has given the departmental secretariat the initiative to introduce the fee, and in our opinion it should will be around 1 euro for individual water meters up to 0,38 cents for consumers who have shared water meters. We hope that we will receive an answer from the secretariat as soon as possible, which is related to this fee and to this type of practice that is already being applied in a large number of Waterworks in Montenegro and we will be able, I hope, in some future period to be specific about that practice," said Makrid for the Republic of Montenegro.

If the legal procedure is respected and if they get the green light from the Secretariat, Makrid says that Vodovod will put the cost of water meter maintenance as a separate item on the bill.
