Only 62 percent of women are registered with selected gynecologists in health centers, according to the latest data from 2014.
On the other hand, almost 96 percent of citizens chose a doctor for adults and a pediatrician.
Officials in the Ministry of Health claim that it is necessary to pay special attention to improving the health of women of reproductive age. They plan to solve this by increasing the number of women, especially pregnant women, who go to selected gynecologists through preventive activities. It is a priority that the selected doctors for women exchange information, experience and knowledge with gynecologists in hospitals, and it is possible that they will also attend births.
Data from the Ministry of Health show that in 2013, 395 teams of selected doctors were employed in health centers, of which 34 were gynecologists.
They worked in a team with 44 nurses or technicians, and they performed about 200.000 examinations.
Selected gynecologists examined sick women more than 150.000 times, and only 42.650 preventive examinations were recorded.
Milovan Jovanović, elected gynecologist and assistant director at the Podgorica Health Center, told "Vijesta" that there are nine teams of elected gynecologists in that health facility, and that each has about 8.000 women registered. He claims that they regularly examine women who are not registered, as well as those who already have their own gynecologist.
"Up to 40 percent of women who are registered in other municipalities contact selected doctors for women in Podgorica," he said.
He assessed that certain clinics should receive reinforcements in the form of new teams.
"We examine up to 100 women every day, and the number of examinations during a working day is never less than 60".
Jovanović does not think that gynecologists, because of higher salaries or ambition, more often choose to work for private individuals or in hospitals.
He pointed out that the chosen one, that is, the "responsible gynecologist" must have enormous knowledge when it comes to pregnancy monitoring, cancer prevention...
"They preserve a woman's reproductive health from early youth to late menopause."
Doctor for 8.000 women in Budva
The director of the Budva Health Center, Zoran Špadijer, said that there is one gynecologist working in that health facility, where about 8.000 women are registered.
He explained that in the team of the selected gynecologist, in addition to the doctor, there is a medical technician and a nurse who is engaged in the school of parenting.
Spadijer claims that at the end of the year, he will get another selected gynecologist from the specialization, who will start working no later than January 2016. This, he claims, will help in the intention that all women will be registered with the selected gynecologist.
