Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović is the new president of the National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), it was decided at today's Government session.

Bogdanović replaced the former minister, current ambassador of Montenegro in Belgrade, Branislav Mićunović, in that position.

In addition to Bogdanović, members of the commission include Sanja Damjanović, Minister of Science, Damir Šehović, Minister of Education, and Pavle Radulović, Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism.

The first UNESCO National Commission was formed in 2008. In the last composition from 2015, when Mićunović was the president, the commission included the current ambassador of Montenegro in Italy, Sanja Vlahović, engineer Mihailo Burić, and Anastazija Miranović, who previously headed the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property, and is now the director of the National Museum of Montenegro.

The work of the National Commission for UNESCO is, among other things, to coordinate and improve the activities and cooperation of ministries and state bodies and institutions responsible for the adoption and implementation of measures and activities of Montenegro within the framework of cooperation with that UN organization; to enable the establishment of a direct connection between UNESCO and educational, scientific and cultural institutions and civil society organizations in Montenegro, as well as to inform the Government about the goals and activities of UNESCO and continuously monitor and analyze the implementation of the proposed measures.
