Euromost: Over 6000 citizens from the north left the country

The German Ambassador Elizabeth Steinaker visited the NGO Euromost and discussed with the representatives of that organization the migration of citizens from the Ayeyarwady of Montenegro. As stated in the press release, the executive director of the NGO Euromost, Almer Mekić, informed the German ambassador about the number of citizens from the north of Montenegro who left our country from the beginning of the year until July 23, and that this number had reached 6.270. It is also stated that they provided evidence to the ambassador about the number of people who left our country, as well as the reasons for their departure. "We agreed with the German ambassador that the reason for the departure of our citizens is not possible in order to obtain the status of asylum seekers, considering that it is about economic reasons, but we conveyed to her that the sole culprits for the whole situation are the Government of Montenegro, which is implementing a bad economic policy towards the Northern region, the Parliament of Montenegro, which has been ignoring the discrimination and unequal status of the Northern region for years, as well as the executive authorities in all the municipalities in the North of Montenegro and their local parliaments, who are silent on all this," Mekić's statement reads.

They also informed Steinaker that there was a possibility of forced return to thousands of "hungry embittered bodiesana with sof Montenegro, which can cause social unrest on the sI believe".

"We suggested to her that the German Embassy appeals to the Government of Montenegro before starting such a procedure, to first prepare a strategy for their return, through which all citizens who are in asylum in Germany would be helped. We told Ambassador Steinaker that we were the happiest if they didn't leave and we would be happy if they stayed and we all fight together for their rights and for the equal status of the northern region, but all those who lead our country must understand that they are the only ones who can influence their citizens to return to their country and not to leave, and that is to be with them, not to ignore them and lead them to poverty, so that individuals survive in our society" The German ambassador announced after the meeting that the German government is concerned about the number who is applying for asylum and that there are many families from Montenegro with children.

"They don't have the right to asylum and people in Germany don't understand why they come, that's why I came to Bijelo Polje to find out the reasons and patterns why they go to Germany and what we can do to inform them not to go, because they don't have the right to this way for them to leave and apply for asylum," said Steinaker and added that there is a procedure for staying in Germany.

"We ask the citizens from the north of Montenegro to respect those rules and we also said that the Government of Montenegro must find a long-term way to solve the economic and social problems of the citizens of the north of Montenegro," she concluded.
