NGO group: We are disappointed by the refusal to erect a monument to the deportees

NGO Anima, Action for Human Rights, Center for Civic Education and Aleksandar Saša Zeković, President of the Council for Citizen Control of Police Work, express disappointment and regret due to the decision of the majority of councilors of the Municipal Assembly of Herceg-Novi to be absent (SNP and Klub Demokrata) or abstained (DPS, Izbor, New Serbian Democracy) during the vote on the initiative to erect a monument to the victims of the crime of refugee deportation in front of the Herceg-Novi Security Center, where they were illegally detained in 1992 and from where they were organized and handed over to the hostile Bosnian Serb army as hostages, according to the statement signed by Tea Gorjanc Prelevic, Executive Director of Action for Human Rights, Daliborka Uljarević, Executive Director of the Center for Civic Education, Ljupka Kovačević, ANIMA Coordinator - Center for Women's and Peace Education and Aleksandar Saša Zeković, President of the Council for Citizen Control of Police Work.

"The victims of this crime are indisputable, and the fact that they were illegally arrested and extradited as hostages was established by a final verdict. The only thing that is disputed is that the court did not recognize it as a war crime. not even the grave knows them yet, it is a measure of the humanity of the deputies of the Herzegovinian Assembly and the will of Montenegro in a small way to look the truth in the eye and prevent something similar from happening again. On the other hand, we welcome the decision of Dragan Šimrak and Milica Berberović from the SDP and Jovane Šijaković from Izbor to vote for this initiative," the announcement states.
