The National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) have included birds, which have not been seen in the area for more than 20 years, among the animal species on Lake Skadar.
The Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) announced that "irrelevant" birds are mentioned in the Draft Five-Year Management Plan for NP "Skadar Lake" (2016-2021).
"In the part related to bird fauna, the white-tailed eagle is mentioned, which was last registered on the lake more than 20 years ago, and can be considered an irrelevant species for this document and this area. Also, the presence of the crested cuckoo has not been recorded on Lake Skadar since 1987, so the consideration of its status is questionable," CZIP announced.
They claim that the draft plan, when it comes to the lake's ornitofauna, was done "superficially, with the absence of a detailed analysis and action plan for the populations of certain species within the five-year program".
The main complaint was the lack of mention of birds in the plans, even though it is a great resource of Lake Skadar and the main reason why it was declared a National Park.
