Green Home about Cijevna: Seven locations of illegal gravel extraction

On the Cijevna river, the part up to the border crossing, the river is in an untouched natural state from a hydrological aspect, while eutrophication is noticeable at a lower water level and there are seven locations of illegal gravel extraction activities along the part of the bed to Dinoša, the NGO Green Home announced today.

As announced by that NGO, during the previous two days, with the help of world-renowned persons from the field of hydromorphology, they held training for hydromorphological assessment and monitoring and assessment of the state of rivers in Montenegro.

"Training with field research was organized for young experts in the field of river ecology, environmental protection and hydrotechnics on the Cijevna and Morača rivers. The purpose of the training was to train young experts to apply a field protocol for monitoring, assessment and mapping of hydrological elements, in order to helped by the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the preliminary assessment of the ecological status of certain rivers and river segments in Montenegro," the Green Home press release states.

They stated that a standard was used, which is already used in Montenegro for the purposes of implementation projects of the Water Framework Directive, and which is waiting to be institutionally accepted.

"During the fieldwork at Morača, the location of Stara Zlatica, numerous anthropogenic pressures of sediment extraction in the coastal zone and minor alteration of the riverbed were determined, the overall result of which in that section does not threaten the long-term hydrological features, while in the lower part of the riverbed, the settlement of Mitrovići, the water body is extremely modified , with a bad morphological picture and major changes in the bed, coast, vegetation and sediment structure," said Green Home.
