The "Container Transport Control" (CCP) project in Montenegro is successfully implemented, and the Customs Administration and the Police Administration are reliable partners in the fight against international drug smuggling and illegal goods, according to the joint statement of the two departments.
Director of the Customs Administration Vladan Joković and Acting Assistant Director for the Criminal Police Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Milovan Pavićević met today in Podgorica with representatives of the "Container Transport Control" (CCP) project and delegations from the Financial Police (Guardia di Finanza) and the Customs Agency - The port of Gioia Tauro (Gioia Tauro) in Italy, as well as the customs and police of Ecuador and colleagues from Albania.
"The meeting of the director of the Customs Administration and the head of the criminal police of the Police Administration, which was also attended by representatives of the UNODC and DCAF, was held as part of the visit to Albania and Montenegro by representatives of the customs, police and prosecutor's offices of the aforementioned countries, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the implementation of joint of the "Container Transport Control" (CCP) project, which is implemented in cooperation with the UNODC and the World Customs Organization (WCO)," the joint statement said.
It is added that they are Joković and Pavićević assessed that the meeting is very significant from the aspect of strengthening cooperation at the inter-institutional and international level in the joint fight against the smuggling of narcotic drugs through container transport, and said that the Montenegrin Customs Administration and the Police Administration are a credible and reliable partner of international cooperation in the fight against transnational crime .
"Detection, prevention and suppression of drug smuggling, as well as other forms of transnational crime, are priorities in the work of the Montenegrin police and customs service, within the jurisdiction of these authorities. Direct contacts, exchange of experiences and good practices with colleagues from Italy, Albania and Latin America will certainly contribute to even more effective proactive actions in joint cases and actions, as well as strengthening the capacity of the Joint Operations Team for container control in Bar, which consists of customs and police officers. evaluated by Joković and Pavićević.
They pointed out that the past cooperation of the Montenegrin police and customs service, as well as cooperation with colleagues from these and other countries, has given concrete results when it comes to cutting off international drug smuggling routes, and thus breaking up criminal groups that are involved in this illegal engaged in activities at the international level.
In this regard, Joković and Pavićević recalled that in 2014, officers of the Customs Administration discovered a shipment with 227 kilograms of cocaine in the Port of Bar, and that thanks to the information possessed by the Montenegrin Police Administration, in 2013, it was in the port of Đoja Tauro in Italy around 200 kg of cocaine were seized, while in the Netherlands around 400 kg of this narcotic drug was seized on that occasion.
Ela Banaj, coordinator of the CCP project for Albania and Montenegro, expressed her gratitude for the meeting on behalf of the delegations of the mentioned countries, assessing that the cooperation within the CCP project between Albania and Montenegro, as well as other countries participating in the project, is very good and significant, since the rapid exchange of relevant information plays a significant role in the identified so-called high-risk containers in which narcotic drugs and other illegal goods are smuggled.
Banaj said that nine countries are currently participating in the CCP project, and that nine more countries are planned to join the project in the coming period.
"The participants of the meeting agreed to intensify direct contacts at operational levels through joint activities in order to jointly approach risk analysis and the exchange of criminal-intelligence data which, along with the profiling of various indicators characteristic of each environment, will contribute to the targeting and control of high-risk shipments and thus to the achievement even better results in the fight against the smuggling of drugs and other illegal goods at the international level," the joint statement concludes.
